Centerboard Celebrates New Little Free Libraries to Expand Literacy and Community Access in Lynn

Centerboard's Lynn Family Resource Center recently celebrated the unveiling of three new Little Free Libraries, creating even more opportunities for community members to discover the joy of reading while reinforcing the organization's commitment to education, accessibility, and neighborhood connection.

The celebration brought together community partners, local artists, volunteers, and residents to mark the addition of the libraries, which are now available for anyone to borrow, share, or donate books—completely free of charge.

One Little Free Library is located on the sidewalk in front of 16 City Hall Square, while two additional libraries can be found alongside the Lynn Community Fridge in Centerboard's parking lot, creating a unique space where neighbors can access both nourishment for the body and nourishment for the mind.

"These libraries represent so much more than books on a shelf," said Olivia Grinstead, Director of Centerboard's Lynn Family Resource Center. "They create opportunities for learning, spark curiosity, and encourage neighbors to connect with one another. Every book shared has the potential to inspire a child, support a family, or open someone's world to a new idea."

The project was made possible through the generosity of The REAL Program, which donated two of the Little Free Libraries, helping expand literacy resources throughout the Lynn community.

The libraries were transformed into vibrant works of public art by the talented students of Raw Art Works' Artists in Action program. Their colorful, creative designs celebrate imagination, diversity, and the power of storytelling while making the libraries inviting destinations for readers of all ages.

"The artwork truly brings these libraries to life," said Grinstead. "Our hope is that families passing by will stop, explore a book, donate one they've finished, or simply discover a new favorite story. The creativity of these young artists helps make literacy feel welcoming and accessible to everyone."

The unveiling celebration also highlighted the strong spirit of community collaboration. Guests donated books to help stock the libraries, contributed food for the neighboring Lynn Community Fridge, and gathered to celebrate the collective effort to make educational resources more readily available throughout Lynn.

Centerboard also extends its appreciation to Lynn Community Television, whose coverage of the event helps amplify stories that strengthen the community and highlight the impact of local partnerships.

The Little Free Libraries complement the Lynn Family Resource Center's broader mission of supporting children and families through educational programming, parenting resources, youth development, food assistance, and community engagement. Together with the Lynn Community Fridge, the libraries create an accessible community hub where neighbors can find support, share resources, and build connections.

Centerboard extends its heartfelt gratitude to The REAL Program for its generous donation of two Little Free Libraries, Raw Art Works' Artists in Action students for their beautiful artistic contributions, Lynn Community Television for documenting the celebration, and the many community members who donated books and food to help ensure these resources remain available to everyone.

By bringing together literacy, public art, and community generosity, this initiative reflects Centerboard's belief that small acts of sharing can create lasting opportunities for learning, belonging, and hope.
