Centerboard's T.R.U.E. Mentorship Program Builds Community Through Weekly Basketball Initiative at Curwin Circle

Every Monday evening, the basketball courts at Curwin Circle become more than just a place to play—they become a space for mentorship, connection, and opportunity.

Centerboard's T.R.U.E. (Teaching, Respect, Unity, and Empowerment) Mentorship Program has partnered with the Harmony Amongst Lynn Teens basketball initiative by sponsoring a weekly team and engaging with youth and families throughout the event. While the games bring young people together on the court, T.R.U.E. mentors remain afterward to connect with community members, share resources, and introduce young boys to the life-changing opportunities available through mentorship.

The weekly presence is part of Centerboard's ongoing commitment to meeting youth where they are—creating trusted relationships in spaces where young people naturally gather.

The T.R.U.E. Mentorship Program is designed specifically to support Black, Indigenous, and other boys and young men of color (BIPOC) by providing individualized mentorship and meaningful, long-term relationships with trusted adult mentors. The program focuses on helping participants build confidence, resilience, and life skills while creating positive pathways that can reduce involvement with the juvenile justice system and other systems of care.

In partnership with the Mass Mentoring Partnership, T.R.U.E. addresses the unique challenges many young men face, including the absence of a consistent father figure, trauma, academic struggles, gang violence, substance use, and other barriers to success. Through one-on-one mentoring, group activities, leadership development, and community engagement, participants gain the tools and support needed to thrive.

By participating in community events like Harmony Amongst Lynn Teens, the T.R.U.E. Mentorship Program continues to expand its reach and connect with youth who may benefit from having a trusted mentor in their lives. The basketball courts offer an informal, welcoming environment where meaningful conversations happen naturally and relationships begin to grow.
